You are welcomed into your home in the Caribbean through an arched native stone entrance into the villa which is set on a ledge, carved into the living rock, straddling a ridge with exposures both east and west.

From every room and deck, you command a 270-degree view-west to the sunset beyond glittering St. Thomas, east beyond the sunrise overlooking Rams head. Andante occupies one of the most spectacular sites on the entire island, offering truly stupendous views of virtually the entire south shore and limited only by the horizon.

Private, but not isolated, Andante's breeze-cooled site and architect designed layout was chosen with great care. The gentle tradewinds are enhanced and modulated by the villa's many windows, rendering the villa’s air conditioning rarely necessary. The multilevel decks, sun drenched and shaded, are comfortable and virtually insect free for relaxing on a leisurely afternoon or under clear star-filled skies at night.

Native stone walls, walks and tropical gardens blend with the Mediterranean stucco and imported tile floors to create a feeling, not quite Cretan, not quite Caribbean, but a little of the most capricious of both.

The villa is tastefully furnished throughout in contemporary Indonesian rattan, teak and mahogany.  Persian rugs sparkle their vibrant colors on the Italian tile floors.  Original artwork as well as carvings and artifacts from around the world grace the walls.   Vaulted cypress beamed ceilings and overhead fans accent the great room, kitchen and two upper bedrooms.

The fully equipped gourmet kitchen includes an electric range/oven, microwave, dishwasher, side-by-side refrigerator/freezer with icemaker and water dispenser in the door; whole house and separate drinking water filtration systems; a "steaming Hot" water dispenser, blender, coffeemaker, breadmaker, Cuisinart food processor and an espresso-cappuccino machine. Quality cookware abounds. A wide assortment of carefully chosen, tasteful but sturdy and dishwasher safe tableware, glassware, stemware and flatware are provided. We’ve tried to equip the kitchen with every "gadget" we can think of, but we’re always open to our guest suggestions and add to our collection for their return visits.

 Our motto in choosing the kitchen furnishings has been "Quality, Beauty, Taste, Excellent design and functionality, but if you can’t put it in the dishwasher, it doesn’t belong at Andante". We want you to enjoy your vacation, not walk on eggshells worrying about breaking the fine crystal or china. A variety of colorful, matching table linens to fit the mood are at your disposal.

Dining under the stars has always been a treat at Andante and now with the new dedicated dining area, covered by a trellis, its even more special, allowing you to eat at the deck rail, in partial shade at any time of the day, while you are hypnotized by the continual sounds and sights of the tide’s ebb and flow.

There are three large bedrooms, all with sea views, full baths and air conditioning. A canopied king size bed and rattan furnishings with a Victorian flair grace the master bedroom along with a private deck.

A five minute descent from the lower patio, on a rough-hewn private path winds down the hill from Andante to the quiet sand and coral beach of Hart Bay below. Here you will find one of the best snorkeling beaches on St. John. A short walk in the opposite direction will take you to the calm white sand stretches of Chocolate Hole.

If "Chilling" is what you seek in your ultimate vacation, Andante is so self-contained, that is possible to "hole up" in the villa for several days at a time, without the need to leave home. Andante is perfect for that first or second honeymoon.

If you do venture out, the world-renowned beaches of the North shore and the boutiques and restaurants (ranging from funky to gourmet) of the tiny town of Cruz Bay are less than a 10 minute drive away. THE ISLAND: By wide consensus, St. John is considered to be one of, if not the most beautiful of the Caribbean islands. Its character is safeguarded by the fact that two thirds of its area is preserved as National Park. Its tone is set by the sprawling, ultra lush Caneel Bay Plantation. Geologically and historically rich, the island is dotted with ruins, peaked by verdant mountains and sundered by alpine canyons.
