Are the holidays really a celebration without family?
Take a typical winter in the North East for example. Prices are inflated. Travel delays can be horrendous. (You're already talking yourself out of it, aren't you?) Add in the fact that it's impossible to travel with gifts (what are you going to do... stuff them in your carry-on?), so you have them sent to their respective recipients. Big family? Budget blown. You arrive tired and beaten with 3 days to cram in too many elaborate meals, inevitably more house-to-house travel and then the return trip home. Sigh.
It doesn't take a calculator to determine that the monetary, physical and mental cost of doing this year-after-year can be taxing to say the least. It's actually probably cheaper to take a vacation. Of course, some thrive on the hustle and bustle of the holidays, and would prefer that to relaxing on the beach in December. So maybe this doesn't work every year. Maybe it's only even a one-in-a-lifetime event. But one thing is for sure, stories would be shared about the trip for subsequent years thereafter.
Truthfully, we don't have a difficult time booking holiday weeks. There are many who are already in on the secret. What are you waiting for? Make memories. Start a new tradition.
