There are no public pools on St. John. The reason? The ocean is calm, crystal clear, and warm. It is the perfect place to swim! Hit up a beach (or a few) and get out there into the Caribbean water.

Just be sure to watch yourself. You may even want to wear watersocks on some swims due to coral and urchins. Surf and current are other deterrents to your perfect swim, so be sure to be mindful of your surroundings and always have a buddy.

Looking for a little secluded adventure? Try Mermaid’s Chair Beach. You can't walk or hike to this beach, you'll need to swim (or snorkel or kayak there). It's located on the east side of Hawksnest Bay, about 200 yards from the beach at Oppenheimer, along the eastern shoreline. It is tiny, perhaps 25 feet wide, with soft white sand. It gets shade in the first half of the day, and the beach is very narrow at high tide.
